Masskara Festival is just around the corner. October 14-21 so mark your calendars. Reserve your tickets now to Bacolod City while it’s still vacation (for students, that is). I found this article by Imogene S. Kana-an, Bacolod City Tourism Officer, from Bacolod Official Website regarding the grand festival:
Masskara FestivalMasskara Festival

What started as “just a new activity” to spice up an otherwisese routine civic-military parade, awarding ceremonies and a literary-musical program for a city charter anniversary, Bacolod City’s MassKara Festival is now 3 years short of its third decade and has already become of the entries of the Philippines to the global tourism community.

The MassKara Festival of Bacolod City has repeatedly represented the country in some major festivals in Asia, notably in the Chinggay Festival in Singapore in 1998, the Lunar Festival of Hong Kong in 2001, in the International Tourism Festival of Shanghai in 2004 and in the Midosuji Festival Parade of Osaka, Japan, emerging as champion in the foreign category and first runner-up in the local category - the first award to be given to a foreign participant in the 10-year history of that Japanese festival.

Among the Philippine festivals, MassKara is one that has also been to almost all major festivals in the Visayas and Luzon. mostly on exhibition performances. During the 23rd Asian Games held in Bacolod City in November 2005, the MassKara dance got the most applause from the athletes, visiting dignitaries and the international press covering the event.

I’d love to go back to Albay, Bicol and see the perfect cone-shaped Mayon Volcano. Last time I went there was… i don’t even remember. Most of my relatives live there considering both my parents are from Bicol. Here’s more information about Mayon Volcano from Wikipedia:

Mayon Volcano - Albay, Bicol, Philippines

Mayon Volcano is an active volcano in the Philippines on the island of Luzon, in the province of Albay in the Bicol Region. Its almost perfectly-shaped cone is considered by some to be the Philippine equivalent of Mount Fuji in Japan. The volcano is situated 15 kilometres northwest of Legazpi City.

Mayon is classified by volcanologists as a stratovolcano (composite volcano). Its symmetric cone was formed through alternate pyroclastic and lava flows. Mayon is the most active volcano in the country, having erupted over 50 times in the past 400 years. It is located between the Eurasian and the Philippine Plate, at a convergent plate boundary: where a continental plate meets an oceanic plate, the lighter continental plate overrides the oceanic plate, forcing it down; magma is formed where the rock melts. Like other volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean, Mayon is a part of the “Pacific Ring of Fire”.

Here’s an article by Marge Perry regarding the wonders of Peanut Butter in your diet:

I loved getting PB&J sandwiches in my school lunch box—until I became a teenager. That’s when peanut butter turned into a guilt-ridden indulgence akin to candy bars, cookies, and cakes: diet disasters to be avoided at all costs. Here’s why I was wrong:

It helps you lose weight

Calling peanut butter a diet food, with 180 to 210 calories per serving, may seem counter-intuitive. But it has the enviable combination of fiber (2 g per serving) and protein (8 g per serving) that fills you up and keeps you feeling full longer, so you eat less overall. Plus, there’s nothing more indulgent than licking peanut butter off a spoon—and indulgence (in moderation) helps dieters fight cravings and stay on track.

It’s packed with nutrition

A serving of peanut butter has 3 mg of the powerful antioxidant vitamin E, 49 mg of bone-building magnesium, 208 mg of muscle-friendly potassium, and 0.17 mg of immunity-boosting vitamin B6. Research shows that eating peanuts can decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions. One study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that consuming 1 ounce of nuts or peanut butter (about 2 tablespoons) at least 5 days a week can lower the risk of developing diabetes by almost 30%.

It’s got the good fat

Peanut butter is chock-full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. A recent study found that insulin-resistant adults who ate a diet high in monos had less belly fat than people who ate more carbohydrates or saturated fat. PS: If you’re buying reduced-fat peanut butter because you think it’s better for your waistline, save your money. The calories are the same (or even a little higher) thanks to the extra ingredients that are added to make up for the missing fat (including more sugar).

How to Buy the Best

The fat and calorie counts of most brands of peanut butter are similar, but there are other indications of a healthier pick. Here’s what to look for:

Sodium

Counts can range from 40 mg to 250 mg per 2-tablespoon serving. (Organic versions tend to have less.) Keep in mind that higher sodium content tends to mask the peanut flavor.

Sugar

Natural brands have 1 to 2 g—about half as much as commercial brands. The sugar content isn’t so much a health issue as a question of flavor and use: If you’re making a savory dish like satay sauce or combining peanut butter with a sweet ingredient, such as jelly or honey, save a few calories by choosing an unsweetened brand.

For Sauces

Peanut Butter & Co.’s Smooth Operator is the PB you spoon instead of spread, making it ideal for drizzling over fruit or adding peanut flavor without thickness to sauces or soups.

Straight Off the Spoon

Smucker’s Natural or Organic have the best peanut flavor of the mass-market brands. They have a pure taste and the quintessential stickiness.

For Lunches

Nothing beats the spreadability of Skippy Natural. With just a couple of swipes of a knife, you get an even layer of peanut butter on your sandwich. If I were stuck on a desert island, the jar I’d treasure is Adams Organic, which has a pure roasted-peanut flavor and a spreadable but thick texture. The problem: It’s only available in the Pacific Northwest. Connoisseurs can order a six-pack at onlinestore.smucker.com/index.cfm.

Given that you have discipline to do all this, and of course effort and patience, you’re bound to lose of those unwanted fats. Of course, this diet won’t work alone. You have to exercise too! Well, if that doesn’t work, still, join me in my starvation diet. Be as dizzy as i am. Have lips as dry as mine. And get your hair falling like there’s no tomorrow… for the price of an disproportioned YET thin body.

Canon looked to the very first ELPH for inspiration when designing the PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH, and came up with a quintessential iteration of the icon: slim, clean-lined and fully flat. Inside, the SD1000 Digital ELPH looks only to the future: 7.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom and advanced DIGIC III ensure top-quality images, while focus is fast and sharp and red-eye is automatically corrected. The large and more colorful LCD screen now has a tough, anti-reflective coating that makes it as durable as it is beautiful.

The price of the product is around $200. 7.1MP is not something to snob. Canon has already proved its ability in the market. I’d love to have one of this. I love canon and its features. I specially like the extra brightness and auto focus.

Apple’s iPhone against Verizon’s The Voyager by LG ElectronicsNEW YORK - Verizon Wireless unveiled three new cell phones on Wednesday for the holiday season, including a high-end handset named Voyager that will compete with Apple’s iPhone.

The Voyager, made by LG Electronics, trumps the iPhone by offering faster wireless Web access. But in a nod to the Apple device, which is only available to AT&T subscribers, it has a large touch screen and full Web browser.

Verizon Wireless hopes the new phone will attract customers put off by the iPhone’s lack of a traditional keypad — the Voyager hinges open to reveal a small computer keypad and a second screen.

With so many phones today i have no idea what to want. I even am clueless of the features of these stuff. I’ve seen one of my friend with the iphone and i think it’s great given that it has a large screen and the color is so vibrant compared to the normal colored phones out there. I might try this out sometime soon but maybe ill consider first the iphone fad before going some other way.

I was checking my e-mail earlier and I got this optical illusion from a friend. It’s so weird and creepy! I can’t believe its even possible. Try this out! Look at the images. One on the left is the angry man and on the right is the calm woman. Move about 12 steps away from the screen. And voila! They switched places. It’s a static picture. It’s not moving in any way and it’s not in a gif format. You can see the bigger format of the picture by clicking on it.

Here’s a list i got from an article by Mark Sullivan about the funniest websites… since funny sites drive soooo much traffic.

Along with sex and shopping, comedy is one of the biggest drivers of traffic on the Web. Especially now that a lot of regular people know how to post their homemade video and audio to the Web (along with clips from TV or radio), there’s an awful lot of funny stuff online. After months of exhaustive research, including lie-detector tests performed on laboratory rats, we’ve gathered a list of the funniest sites on the Web. Visit these sites and try not to laugh. Also, you’ll notice we’ve left off sites like Comedy Central and College Humor, which are funny but a little overexposed.

You should check it out. Although some of the sites are not-so-funny and some are really worth the hassle of clicking away. Hehehe.

MOSCOW — A small Russian city just got a really big addition: a 17 pound, 1 ounce baby whose mother had already delivered 11 smaller children.

Tatiana Khalina, 42, delivered the girl by Caesarean section at a maternity clinic in Aleisk, a town of 30,000 people in the Altai region in southern Siberia, a nurse at the clinic said Thursday.

Nurse Svetlana Gildeyeva also said the Sept. 17 birth went smoothly, and mother and baby — Nadezhda — were well.

The daily Moskovsky Komsomolets quoted the local social services chief, Marina Alistratova, as saying the family had modest means. She said Khalina’s husband was on contract with a local military unit.

17 pounds?? That’s like 3-4 times the normal baby weight. So what will happen to this baby as she grows up? I don’t even wanna think about it. But according the some news, such even occurs when babies are so much larger than the usual. Well I just hope she doesn’t turn out to be a heavy-weight bully. For the sake of the anorexics.

BOSSIER CITY, La. - He’ll never want breakfast again.

Pat Bertoletti, a Mohawk-sporting chef from Chicago, gulped down 21 pounds of buttery, goopy grits in 10 minutes to win $4,000 in the first World Grits Eating Championship at Louisiana Downs on Saturday.

The grits were presented in 2-pound trays, each about 8 inches by 6 inches and 1 1/2 inches deep, said Ryan Nerz, a spokesman for Major League Eating.

Bertoletti, in a statement, said the race “tested our stomach capacity like no other.”

So do we really need protein shakes to gain muscle? I’ve tried several muscle building protein shakes before and they didn’t work. Maybe because i didn’t even exercise, eh? Hahahaha. Well that was a waste. Anyway, here’s an article by Martica Heaner regarding Protein Shakes:

Q: Can you get buff without adding extra protein to your diet? What are the pros and cons of protein shakes?

A: Although many women avoid lifting heavy weights because they are afraid they’ll get bigger, many men who want to build bulk know that it’s not easy to build muscle. The secret to getting buff boils down a simple recipe: Lift heavy weights two to three times a week, and eat more calories than normal. (Having shorter arms and legs and a genetic tendency to build muscle also helps.)

The exercise stimulus creates a sort of muscle breakdown so that when you sleep, your muscles go into an anabolic state to get bigger and stronger than before. Consuming extra calories provides the energy needed for this rebuilding process.

So basically, it’s all in the calorie intake. The more calorie, the bigger and better muscle you will gain upon weight training. You have to feed your muscle with food so that they wouldn’t go to rest and say goodbye while you’re sleeping. But but but don’t overdo it. Calorie is good when needed. Too much calorie will just be stored somewhere in your midsection. Don’t worry, you don’t have to look for it. It will show, eventually.

I watched the previous Resident Evils before and i must say that they were really good. Now i wanna watch this latest one but i don’t have the time. It was released last September 21, 2007. Here’s a review by Jason Buchanan of All Movie Guide:

Director Russell Mulcahy takes over for the third and final chapter in the Resident Evil film trilogy that finds genetically altered Alice (Milla Jovovich) joining forces with Carlos (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps) to take down the Umbrella Corporation once and for all. Upon emerging from her hideout in the Nevada desert, Alice is quickly joined by old friends Carlos and L.J., as well as survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke), and Nurse Betty (Ashanti). Now instilled with super-human strength, senses, and dexterity as a result of the biogenetic experimentation conducted on her by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice and the rest of the survivors set out to eliminate a virus that threatens to turn every living human undead, and ensure that the mysterious organization pays the price for their horrific crimes against humanity.

Oh. Can’t wait!

Michelle Rodriguez, a former star from Lost, failed to abide to the probation rules by not doing community service and even lying about it. Here’s a news from Msn Tv News:

LOS ANGELES — Actress Michelle Rodriguez violated probation again in a drunken driving case by failing to complete her community service and not following an alcohol education program, prosecutors said.

Rodriguez went to court Friday to answer to the latest claims by the city attorney’s office, which said the former “Lost” actress submitted a document stating she performed community service on Sept. 25, 2006, but later admitted she was actually in New York City that day.

The document was required as part of the 30 days of community service Rodriguez was ordered to serve for violating probation in a 2003 drunken driving case, according to court papers filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

If she is found to have violated terms of her probation, Rodriguez could face between 477 to 537 days in county jail and a $2,000 fine. Read more…

She’s saying that she did it and that there were just some clerical errors. Well, let’s make the judge decide on that. Given that she really didn’t do the community service, here’s what i have to say. Ok… just for not doing community service she might be sentenced to 2 years imprisonment. She could’ve checked the pros and cons before skipping the community service. It would’ve probably been easy! Well, i guess you’d rather sleep in a cell full of criminals.

“Dress for the position you want, not the position you have” is a statement by Diane Danielson that i’ll probably remember forever. Well, if you’re looking to be someone better, then you should act on it. Don’t stay in your tiny, dark corner! Go out and show what you can do and who you can be! For men, dressing up starts with the following basics (from Marie Claire and Ask Men fashion experts):

“Suit:  Every professional man or woman needs at least one traditional, well-tailored suit in a classic color.  Women who choose a skirt suit should also have a pair of pants as a coordinating piece.
Button-down shirts:  Classic white is a must because it looks good with anything, but buy a few in different colors that match your suit.
Shoes: Women should invest in black leather pumps and walking shoes, such as a good, comfortable pair of loafers or ballet flats in leather.  Men should have at least one pair of black leather shoes and a black leather belt to wear with them.
Accessories: Women should accessorize with a few pieces of jewelry and a good leather tote bag, and men should wear a watch and have either a black or brown leather wallet.”

Start investing on more essential stuff. Don’t forget that these are the things that will drive you to success.

Research is now being done for the future of Male contraception! I read this article Birth Control for Guys and here’s what i found out.

“Several promising possibilities — from a male pill to putting a cork in it — are on the horizon, based on presentations today at the second “Future of Male Contraception” conference, held in Seattle and sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, World Health Organization and others.

 They include:

  • Sperm blocker: Researchers who have been developing the Intra Vas Device are expected to announce test results showing “substantial equivalence to traditional vasectomy methods” in a study of 90 men. The device — a set of removable plugs — blocks sperm in the vas deferens, the tube that’s cut in a vasectomy. Further research is needed to find whether fertility returns after the plugs are removed.
  • Testosterone-like pill: A drug called “selective androgen receptor modulator,” or SARM, is being tested on humans as an osteoporosis and muscle-wasting treatment. It also shows promise as a male pill, researchers said. A similar drug taken orally reduces sperm counts in rabbits.
  • Nonhormonal pill: Research shows a non-hormonal compound called CDB-4022 prevents monkey sperm from swimming to their destination. Upon stopping treatment, fertility returned completely in 16 weeks, according to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh. But the safety of the drug still needs to be tested.”

Wow… technology’s really something huh?
